Dear Kosmos Reader,

In these troubling times, many are experiencing a heightened alertness. Tuning-in to the intuition of your heart can unveil unexpected insights and feelings. Yet, what does it entail to heed the call of your heart, to be summoned to service by something higher, or beyond yourself? You might feel the call initially as an electric quiver of recognition. However, the mind can quickly interject, labeling the calling as too hard, too impractical. And the gut may also intervene – it’s too risky.

Andean ceremonial healer Arkan Lushwala defines the heart’s calling as Munay, or the will of the heart. Its origin, he says, is the light coming from the cosmos. In this sense, our ‘calling’ is not something we invent but rather what exists all around us. Each of us has access to the direct source of energy that feeds our will – we inhale it into our lungs and absorb it through our skin. This light of Life is also stored in the wholesome foods we consume. When we are in flow with Earth’s gifts, we align with the will of the cosmos. The new issue of Kosmos reflects this insight.

The mind is a cluttered desk, piled high with thoughts and emotions that often distract us from our true purpose. So, embarking on the heart’s journey can be messy, with many starts and stops. But as we proceed, our mental space becomes clearer and obstacles somehow dissolve. When Cynthia Jurs was tasked by a wise old teacher in Nepal to bury dozens of sacred treasure vases across the Earth, she had no idea if or how she might do such a thing. In the process, she herself became a holy vessel for healing and transformation in the lives of thousands. The story of her journey will inspire you.

Rama Mani and Alexander Schieffer are just beginning their epic quest – visiting every country in the next seven years to honor urgent voices and invite collective action for a more beautiful world. Follow their itinerary and progress in Kosmos.

The heart’s calling can be as simple as tenderly caring for a garden, teaching a grandchild, or participating in the life of a community. Receiving nourishment from the Earth and nourishing others in return is the reciprocal energy that sustains Life. Receiving and giving become one. Read about Surviving the Future: The Deeper Dive – an online circle convened by Shaun Chamberlin for ten weeks each year, and consider participating in similar practices of intentional togetherness and sharing if you aren’t already doing so.

Of course, action and speech are interrelated. Osprey Orielle Lake asks an important question: “Do we have access to words and languages that are life-enhancing, that awaken our consciousness to an animate Earth and our place in a living cosmology?” As you read each article in Kosmos, we invite you to sit in stillness for a few minutes and breathe with your whole heart. Be aware of the flow of Life around you and within you. Step outside to feel the sun or witness a flower. For you too are a wonder of life, as much as the stars and the rain, and when you become alive to that reality, your heart will sing to you.

In loving gratitude,
r.fabian, for Kosmos
