Mirror Flourishing: The New Business North Star

By David Cooperrider
KOSMOS JOURNAL SPRING | SUMMER 2016

“The grammar of interconnection is the business discipline of our age. In this article I want to underscore and build upon three achievements from this call for sustainability-as-flourishing (SAF), and then amplify a hidden opportunity—a huge one. It relates to a question that I’ve been studying and I believe we, as a field, are zeroing in on with an honest answer that every organization, manager, and industry can benefit from. That overarching question is this: how can we most reliably, naturally, and most rapidly bring the human side of enterprise to its vital highest and best version of itself—to a tangible and irrepressible state of enterprise-wide flourishing inside and outside—and do so in pragmatic ways that break the ‘sound barriers’ to sustainable value creation at a more macro level?”

Building a Local Peace Economy: We Have the Power

“There is an alternative to corporate domination and the violence and ruin it brings. By building a new global economy in which every community has food and water security and locally produced renewable energy, we can create the foundation for world peace. The British economist and author of Small Is Beautiful, E. F. Schumacher, puts it simply: “People who live in highly self-sufficient local communities are less likely to get involved in large-scale violence than people whose existence depends on world-wide systems of trade.”

Don’t be overwhelmed by the enormity of rebuilding our global economy. Begin at home in your own community. Working together, local entrepreneurs, conscientious consumers and local governments can build regional economies that produce food, clothing, building materials, renewable energy and other supplies locally, using fair and sustainable practices.”

Natural Capitalism | Can Business Save the Environment?

Via the blog, Persuade Me Politics

What can be realistically done to protect and revitalize the health of the planet, our living environment, given the combative political culture in America, big energy corporations pushing for complete deregulation and the public continuing to consume resources and industrial products at unprecedented levels?

We must consider capitalism’s effects regarding both stewardship and abuse of Earth’s limited resources and interdependent ecosystem. Numerous potent moves toward solutions are presented in a book that economist-environmentalist and successful entrepreneur, Paul Hawken, co-authored with Amory Lovins and Hunter Lovins: Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution.

Transitioning to a more compassionate, conscious future is a journey of both outer changes and inner ones. Sophy Banks is a psychotherapist and co-developer of the Transition Town Movement’s ‘inner transition’ philosophy. I had the pleasure to create this short video with her at the New Story Summit in Findhorn, Scotland. (R. Fabian)

Kosmos Global Ambassador Report from Australia

By Anita Kelleher
KOSMOS JOURNAL SPRING | SUMMER 2016

Sharing Our Message of Hope and Solidarity

My work takes me into other countries and gives me firsthand experience of the many different lives our human family is living. Being a Kosmos Global Ambassador has enabled me to share the global messages of peace, regeneration, the beauty of diversity, and the stories from remote places that show us that people around the world are beginning to unite around the common goal of human thriving in 21st century conditions. It is a wonderful way of letting isolated or marginalised communities know that there is a caring global community out there and that they are a part of a global conversation.
