Citizens Guide | Understand and Participate in the Success of the Paris Global Climate Agreement

We’re pleased to share with you – A Citizens’ Guide to Participation in the Making of a Global Climate Agreement. The Global Citizens Initiative produced this Guide as part of the Citizens Campaign for a 2015 Global Climate Agreement. This Campaign is targeted to engaging citizens around the world in advocating that their governments make strong pledges to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Every country has been asked to make an emission reduction pledge that will become part of a new global climate agreement to be negotiated at a Heads of State meeting in December in Paris.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace.

As someone who grew up being told that we should not use violence, while simultaneously noticing that my society’s biggest public project was the U.S. military, I can only imagine the power of consistency found in an educational curriculum that walks its own talk. Costa Rica has built up a society of low violence and of, as one speaker in the film describes it, “an attitude of non-aggression toward the poor.” ‘
