Mark Gerzon

Dubbed an "expert in civil discourse" by The New York Times, Mark Gerzon is the co-founder and co-director of the Global Leadership Network, an international organization whose members are leadership trainers from every region of the world. He is the best-selling author of several books including Leading Through Conflict: How Successful Leaders Transform Differences Into Opportunities and Leading Beyond Borders: Tools for Transforming Conflict into Synergy. Both in the private as well as the public sector, his goal is to support leaders who can build bridges across their differences in order to find common ground and solve critical problems.

Gerzon has served as a consultant to the United Nations Development Program and its Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery. He designed and facilitated the first and second United States House of Representatives' Bipartisan Congressional Retreats, and continues to conduct dialogue trainings for Chiefs of Staff from both parties in the US House and Senate. He also organized one of the first dialogues between the World Economic Forum (Davos) and World Social Forum (Porto Alegre). He is a Distinguished Fellow at the EastWest Institute and is active in the State of the World Forum. For 20 years, Gerzon has been President of the Mediators Foundation, a non-profit incubator of conflict resolution projects.

He is currently designing an interactive, awareness-raising workshop ‘The Global Citizen Journey’ based on his most recent book.

For four decades, Gerzon has been involved in global affairs — first as a student (his junior year at Harvard was spent living and studying in seven countries around the world); then as a journalist (he co-founded WorldPaper, a “global newspaper” which reached a circulation of 1.5 million in five languages); next as a citizen diplomat (he worked for several years bringing together Soviet and American civic leaders to help end the cold war); and now as a UN advisor in leadership development.
