Love, Peace, and Harmony in a Turbulent Time

Love, Peace, and Harmony in a Turbulent Time

By Master Francisco Quintero

During this turbulent time when disagreements and surface differences are exaggerated, there is more need than ever to intensify our spiritual practices and to emphasize our shared humanity and interconnectedness. During the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, Martin Luther King. Jr. always insisted that activism had to be guided by the love and desire for peace that is at the core of our being. Fundamentally, our differences are secondary. Our spiritual practices help us to remember to act with love and compassion and to try to bring our hearts and souls together as one.

One of the most important practices for spreading this message is through song, chanting, and group meditation. Research has shown that when large groups of people chant and meditate together, there is a positive impact on the entire community. We become what we chant, so when we chant for world love, peace, and harmony, we can change ourselves and the world. As we create more inner peace, we simultaneously can create more peace all over the world.

The practice of meditation, chanting, and singing builds up more good karma for everyone and counteracts the bad karma produced by anger and turmoil. The good karmic effects of spreading love and compassion extends to everyone, creating bridges to understanding and peace.

There is strong evidence for the healing power of sound. All religions have songs, chants, or prayers that are central for healing and life transformation. Chants, songs, mantras, and prayers carry high spiritual frequencies and vibrations that resonate in our bodies, minds, and hearts, and reach our souls.
The song “We Shall Overcome” became an anthem during the Civil Rights Movement for the activists, providing strength, unity, and faith. In that spirit, Master Zhi Gang Sha, who has received the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Commission Award for his humanitarian service and is the founder of the Love Peace Harmony Foundation, invites people to join many others in singing “Love Peace Harmony”:

I love my heart and soul
I love all humanity
Join hearts and soul together
Love peace and harmony
Love peace and harmony
