Possible Futures | Call for Essays; and Sacred Season Gifts for You
October 29, 2019 Kosmos Community News
Dear Reader,
For twenty years, Kosmos has urged people of goodwill to heed the stirrings in their heart and join the rising tide of global transformation. This movement-of-many-movements has no center, no leader, no rigid order, and yet it expresses at many levels a keen commitment to reshape our political, economic, and social systems in greater alignment with the needs of all Life. And this awareness is reaching a tipping point.
In a recent editorial at openDemocracy.net, editor Michael Edwards said:
“New networks and websites on both sides of the Atlantic have emerged to join established partners like YES! Magazine, Waging NonViolence, Daily Good and Kosmos – a welcome sign that the movement to revive the personal-political frame is growing…Deep transformations are possible when love and justice reinforce each-other to create a permanent shift in direction among human beings and the institutions they create.“
As Kosmos has consistently articulated through the years, this shift or awakening manifests in myriad ways – through personal practice and insight, aesthetic beauty and the arts, service to communities, in commons and transition movements, justice, peace and climate movements, ecovillage, animal rights, and fair trade movements, and in emerging transformational models for education, governance, and global economy.
Please help us continue the vital, sacred work of advancing and giving voice to global transformation.
Kosmos is seeking a few extraordinary Donors and Partners who feel called to join us in the next phase of transformation. Please contact info@kosmosjournal.org to explore opportunities in media development, research, convening, and publishing.

The use of jet in jewelry dates back to Neolithic times in Ancient Britain, as ornament and for its healing properties. Jet is a variety of lignite coal, formed from fossilized wood, but is considered a gem, like amber or pearl. Howlite was discovered in Nova Scotia in 1868 and is sometimes called “white buffalo turquoise.” It is said to be a dominant guardian stone. Together these stones represent the relationship between grief and hope. Wear them together or share with a loved one.

Kosmos Call for Essays and Works | Possible Futures: Justice, Values, and Governance | Deadline, November 30, 2019
Many believe humanity is facing our greatest test. Our choices continue to profoundly impact the Earth and future Life. Are we ushering in a hell or a heaven on Earth? Our Winter theme, Possible Futures: Justice, Values, and Governance, expresses our greatest hopes as we work to transform our deepest fears. What is the future for democracy and governance on a planet imperiled by climate chaos? As economic disparity and the tech-divide continue to widen, is social collapse inevitable? Is spiritual transformation gaining the urgency and energy needed to tip the scales of global consciousness in time? Is a new planetary era of global care possible? What will communities of the future look like as we move from I, to We, to All?
We invite you to submit an essay up to 1000 words, a poem, or other artwork, in response to any of these prompts or what ‘Possible Futures’ means to you. We will choose several works to publish in our Quarterly and on our website.
Deadline: November 30, 2019 | Use our Submission Form for written works. For all other media, contact info@kosmosjournal.org directly, with the subject line: Submission Inquiry. Before you submit, please take a look at our guidelines.
