Wesak Festival, a note from Nancy Roof

The birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha is celebrated by many worldwide on May 14, 2014. We at Kosmos, join this sacred occasion with deep appreciation for the wisdom and practices that the Buddha imparted to the world; wisdom so potent that it has become fundamental not only to half a billion Buddhists but untold millions more who seek the path to liberation through Buddha-inspired meditation and contemplation practices that are now part of Western culture as well as Eastern.

It is said that at this time spiritual energies are at their most potent and thus divine understanding is within the reach of those who love and serve all living beings. It is a time to go beyond the simple words of the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path and explore their deeper layers of meaning in our lives.

Four Noble Truths

1. Suffering exists

2. Suffering arises from attachment to desires

3. Suffering ceases when attachment to desires ceases

4. Freedom from suffering is possible by practicing the Eightfold Path
