Jonathan Schell, formerly an editor with the New Yorker (1967-1987), is currently the Harold Willens Peace Fellow at the Nation Institute. In 1982 he wrote The Fate of the Earth, a bestseller about the grim realities of nuclear proliferation that galvanized millions and became a cornerstone of the movement to abolish nuclear weapons.
