Nancy Roof, Ph.D. is the founder of the award-winning Kosmos Journal: The Journal for World Citizens and Planetary Civilization, which is based on evolving interior development and cultural values as they impact globalization and world community. Kosmos Associates, Inc. is also actively involved in the founding of the Global Commons movement with James Quilligan of the Global Commons Trust. Nancy won the 2009 Images and Voices of Hope award for journalism as a tool to inform, inspire and engage individual and collective participation in a global shift to higher-level thinking. In 2004, Kosmos was nominated by Utne for excellence. Her testimony on the human dimension of the United Nations was distributed to the US President and Congress. As a founder of Transpersonal Psychology (late 70s), she served as a spiritual guide to individuals for 20 years. In the late 80s, she began to define the field of global transformation at the United Nations, where she successfully lobbied for elevated global standards in international treaties and co-founded the Values Caucus (1994) and the Spiritual Caucus (2000). Working with 78 international organizations in war zones for over two years, she recognized the traumatic effect of war, not only on military personnel, but on their families, communities and service providers. She then designed the first global training programs and workbook on secondary traumatic stress, implemented initially during the Balkan wars and now used internationally. She is a founding member of the Global Commons Initiative, World Wisdom Council, Creating the New Civilization Initiative, 2020 Climate Leadership Campaign, WorldShift 2012 (Ervin Laszlo), Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment, a Board member of Integral Review and Living Earth TV and a speaker at Mikhail Gorbachev’s World Political Forum.
James Quilligan has been an analyst and administra tor in the field of international development since 1975. He has served as policy advisor and writer for many international politicians and leaders, including Pierre Trudeau, François Mitterrand, Edward Heath, Julius Nyerere, Lopez Portillo, Olof Palme, Willy Brandt, and Jimmy Carter. He has been an economic consultant for government agencies in 26 countries, including the United States. He has also served as an advisor for several United Nations programs and international development organizations. Quilligan’s articles, under his own name, or as a ghostwriter for others, have appeared in the International Herald Tribune, the Manchester Guardian, the Christian Science Monitor, the Washington Post, Newsweek, Der Spiegel, the Economist, World Press Review, Tikkun, and other books and publications. He is also a musician and composer.
John D. Schmidt is the founder and CEO of Avastone Consulting, an international consultancy committed to the vitality and sustainability of client organizations and the larger global community. He serves as advisor to global corporations and non-governmental enterprises, and is a thinker, designer, and practitioner in integral approaches to complex challenges and human development. John is the innovative force behind Avastone’s powerful set of learning experiences that bring to life dimensions and dynamics of leadership. He is dedicated to personal contemplative practice, and spends 25 days per year in retreat.

Tara Stuart, Assistant to the Editor, holds an International Associateship degree, equivalent to a US Doctorate of Education, from the University of London, Institute of Education. Tara has a diverse professional background as educator, speaker, author, illustrator and CEO of her own business. She has lived and worked in a variety of cultures and nations which include the Yucatan of Mexico, Switzerland, India, Great Britain, Turkey, Tibet, and South Africa. She was Co-founder of the Hill Center for Psychosynthesis in Education in Walpole, New Hampshire. In cooperation with The School for International Training, Tara and her associates were instrumental in establishing and international education program for gifted high school students in five nations. As a professor she has taught Ethics in Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Advanced Public Speaking, Group Interaction and a Seminar in International Communication. In 2005 Keene State College of the University System of New Hampshire recognized her as Professor of Communication, Emeritus.
Mary Davidson has a rich history of investment management holds advanced degrees in Business and History. Employed by The Bank of New York for 25 years, Mary managed stock and bond portfolios, each minimally $1M. She also has a broad range of experience in education – from classroom teaching to fund-raising and alumni affairs. She travels to Africa frequently to improve the quality of life for those in poverty, especially orphaned children in Kenya. She was honored to be initiated into the Maasai community in the summer of 2009. In addition to serving as an advisor to Kosmos, she is a long-time board member of several other organizations including World Learning. An avid reader and international traveler, Mary is committed to lifelong learning and her passions include music and theatre.
